The title of this post is quite unassuming considering there is never really a right way to end a relationship. What works for Mr A might not work for Mr B. Every relationship has its own dynamics and you can't always apply a set rules or techniques to your relationship. However, there are certain tips that can help.
1. Find a moment of calm to break up
Most people pick the climax of a high emotional fallout or a tense moment of disagreement to break up, but it only leads to ripples of fights, seeking revenge and stalking and the urge for closure. Once you see all the reasons why a relationship is not working, it is best to pick a moment of calm with a detailed and well-prepared speech listing the valid reasons why the relationship cannot continue.
2. Never break up via text
It is rude and disrespectful to break up with someone via text message. Imagine yourself at the receiving end. Now, there are exceptions to this rule, which include the fact that the other party is violent, far away in another state or country or you have enough receipts of them cheating and are convinced they are at it that moment, then it will be okay to break up via text. Even if the person is in prison, be man enough to break up in person, especially in relationships where so much has been invested, time, money, emotions etc. It is the last shred of respect you can give the person.
3. Give a parting gift
There's a reason why damages are sought in most court cases. It is not because money can bring back what is damaged or lost, but because money is a commodity so valuable, it is the closest to filling up a loss especially caused by someone else.
So, where necessary, especially if you are the one initiating a breakup where the other party has invested so much in, try to give a considerable valuable parting gift to console them for the breakdown of the relationship and make the hurt a bit bearable to ensure and have less curses heaped on you.
