Rape Scandal: Cosby resigns from Temple University Board

77-year-old legendary comedian Bill Cosby, has resigned  from the Board of Trustees of his beloved Temple University, “in the best interest of the University and students”, following series of sexual allegations made against him by several women over the years.

America’s legendary comedian, Bill Cosby

In a short statement released Monday Cosby said: “I have always been proud of my association with Temple University. I have always wanted to do what would be in the best interests of the university and its students. As a result, I have tendered my resignation from the Temple University Board of Trustees.”

At least, 15 women have come forward with allegations that “The Cosby Show” host sexually assaulted them, accusing him of drugging them first, though his lawyers have brushed off the claims as ‘discredited’ and ‘misguided’.

Responding to the notice of resignation from the veteran stand-up performer and educator Temple University’s Board said:

“The Board of Trustees accepts Dr. Cosby’s resignation from the board and thanks him for his service to the university.”

The Board chairman Patrick O’Connor told the Associated Press that Cosby does not want to be a “distraction” to the University, where he had first studied Physical Education between 1961 and 1962 after bagging a track and field scholarship, while serving in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman.

He had left the University to pursue a career in comedy and later returned for his collegiate studies after 10 years. More than a dozen other women have come forward since the lawsuit was filed to make similar claims, including several who have gone public this month. Some said they passed out after taking a drink or pill from him, and woke up with their clothes askew, and, in some cases, in physical pain.

On November 19, Netflix  announced that it had postponed indefinitely, a Cosby standup comedy special, while the NBC’s spokeswoman Rebeca Marks, said the Cosby sitcom, is ‘no longer under development’ following the series of allegations from the women, which have cast great aspersions on the reputation of the legendary comedian.
