NCPC scribe advocates reward mechanism at work place

Mr John-Kennedy Opara, the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, has advised organisations to devise a reward mechanism for outstanding members of staff as a form of motivation.

Opara gave the advice on Sunday while addressing newsmen at the end of a 3-day retreat held at the Living Faith Church, Goshen City, Keffi-Abuja Expressway, Nasarawa State.

“ I want to advice that every organisation that wants to move forward and make an impact must have a sense of reward mechanism.

“ They must reward faithfulness, commitment and loyalty. The government must also do the same because when you reward people, their level of commitment for that organisation will increase.

“ If you don’t recognise hard work, people will have nothing to struggle for, and they will never be committed to the organisation they are working for,’’ he said.

Opara said that the Executive Secretary’s (ES) award was introduced last year to motivate, commend and to encourage members of staff for hard work and excellence.

“ I introduced the ES award to motivate, commend and to encourage people to do better and bring out the best in them.

“ I consulted God to do the selection of the members of staff qualified for this award.

“ I study them and try to know how they feel about the job they are doing and I do everything humanly possible to also take care of them,’’ he said.

Prof. Sam Ale, the former Director-General of National Mathematical Centre, commended the executive secretary for bringing an innovation which he said should “go round every ministry in Government”.

“ The Executive Secretary of NCPC has actually brought an innovation that should go round every ministry, department and agency, and private organisations because it encourages workers.

“ When you know that something more than what you usually get is waiting for you, you will enthusiastically try to work hard,’’ he said. (NAN)
