You need some pretty big teeth if you’re going to take down The Avengers AND Harry Potter.

But that’s exactly what Jurassic World just did.

The dinosaur sequel is now the biggest opening movie of all time domestically and internationally.

On Sunday it was reported that the film’s combined worldwide box office tally was the biggest ever… although it was still short of the individual US and Rest Of World records set by The Avengers in 2012 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in 2011, respectively.

But as the final figures rolled in on Monday morning it was concluded that Jurassic World had taken in $208.8million in North America, pipping the first Avengers film’s $207.4million.

Outside the US, Chris Pratt and co sold $315.3million worth of tickets, clawing past the final Potter film’s $314million.

This put the Universal flick undisputedly on top of the podium internationally, domestically and combined, with a grand total of $524.1million

The studio has been on a gold run this year with February’s erotic Fifty Shades of Grey, April’s Furious 7 action release and May’s Pitch Perfect 2.

Universal also notched two more records this weekend, becoming the fastest to reach $1 billion within a calendar year at the North American box office and $3 billion worldwide.

Clever girl: Early predictions had placed Jurassic World, which cost $150million to make, at an opening weekend gross of $121million, but it stomped all over that, making more than four times that amount

It had been initially thought nostalgia for the original 1993 film with Sam Neill and Laura Dernwould be the main driver of audiences, but according to according to CBS almost two in every five bums on seats belonged to under 25-year-olds.
