Following the success of “Pitch Perfect 2” which grossed nearly $260 million worldwide in just a month, Universal and Gold Circle are moving ahead on “Pitch Perfect 3” by setting July 21, 2017 as its release date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kay Cannon, who wrote the first two installments, is in talks to write the third film.
The two leading stars in the movie, Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, are set to reprise their roles as the members of the Bellas. Although they were not originally contracted for a third film, both of them are very interested to take part in the follow-up movie.
Making the third film in a comedy series is a challenge as it has to at least reach the same number of total gross with the previous movie. “Pitch Perfect 2” posted the second-highest PG-13 comedy opening ever, right behind “Austin Powers: Goldmember” which opened to $73 million in the summer of 2002.
