Several people have reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries at the Nativeland concert.
Nativeland is an annual party for the celebration of Nigerian Music. This year's edition was held on Thursday, December 19, 2019, at the Muri Okunola Park, Lagos.
Unfortunately, the party didn't seem to go according to plan, as a group of enthusiastic fans sustained various degrees of injuries at the Nativeland concert.
In the spirit of urban music festival, the concert headlined Burna Boy and other favourite Nigerian artistes, including Naira Marley, Santi and Rema, Lady Donli, Tems, JoeBoy, FireBoy, Buju, Gigi Atlantis, SOMADINA, Cuppy, Maison 2500 Dj Femo and international performances from, British rapper, Dave, Angolan-born rapper, Octavian, Jamaica’s breakout global star, Koffee, and British rap group, NSG.
According to videos and photos which have been released on Nigerian Twitter by various people who attended the concert, the VIP stage caved in minutes into Fireboy's performance.
Eyewitnesses, who tweeted about the incident, said the reason behind the sad incident was the overcrowded nature of the event’s venue. There were also reports of high handedness from the security operatives at the venue, which involved men in camouflage flogging participants.
According to the statement released by the organizers, the crowd overwhelmed the security operatives and a lot of people came in with multiple unticketed entry passes.
Although Nativeland has apologized to the people who took out time to attend the concert, the angry mob have been calling out the organizers on Twitter.
