Food West Africa 2017 Exhibition Starts on a Low Key with Lots of Freebies

The largest platform for both international and regional food and beverage companies to meet, network and establish business ties in Africa’s fastest growing region – West Africa, commenced Wednesday, May 17th, at the Landmark Centre, Victoria Island Lagos.

Mr. Ryan Sanderson, the exhibition director of the 2nd Food West Africa 2017 Exhibition, stated the reason behind the exhibition is due to the large food processing and distribution industry in Nigeria. He also said that Nigeria exports a lot of food from overseas, but through this exhibition, small and medium entrepreneurs have the opportunity to participate and showcase their products to the international community.

My sojourn round the exhibition hall didn’t leave me quite impressed with the turn out, I must say. Though described as a bigger exhibition than its maiden which was held in Eko Hotel in 2016, the turnout of people at the exhibition was quite low unlike the GTBank Food and Drink Festival which was held few weeks ago (maybe because this is the first day).

There was a lot of international brand presence all the way from the UK, Middle East, Asia and the US, with no other brands representing other West African countries aside from the host country, Nigeria, which had a few notable brands and SMEs visibly present.

An interesting part of the exhibition for me was the availability of free goodies, lots of it, especially if you are a lover of pastries. There was a wide variety of dairies, sweets, ice-cream and baked dishes. So if you are a food lover, get set to loosen your belt for the gastronomic delights being served at the various exhibition stands and if you love drinks, then prep your taste buds for savoury wine tastings and soda.

The 3-day event continues tomorrow as the National Association of Supermarket Operators of Nigeria (NASON) holds their conference alongside launches of products by various exhibitors.

Food West Africa which is billed to hold from 17 – 19 May, 2017 is organised by Informa Life Sciences with support from National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control ( NAFDAC) in partnership with Ogbaru Main Market, Balogun Business Associates, Happenings Media, The Insider, Pulse ng, Connect Nigeria and others.
