An Environmental Biology undergraduate, Modupe Susan Garland, has emerged winner of the 2019 Miss Earth beauty pageant, which held on Saturday, August 3, at the Mega 1 Events Place, Lekki, Lagos.

The 21-year-old, who would represent Nigeria at the 2019 Miss Earth pageant in Philippines in October, emerged victorious after contesting with 15 other ladies for the crown.

Victoria Ojieoze Mamure followed closely in second position, while Gwen Chioma Ifeanyieze, Miss Doris Uchechukwu and Miss Ugah Christine Telfer were crowned Miss Earth Water, Fire and Eco-Tourism respectively.

The host of the event, tagged ‘Flowers’, former beauty queen and Nollywood actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima, noted that the aim of the Miss Earth beauty pageant was to empower young women and enhance environmental beauty.

"Miss Earth pageant believes in raising ambassadors that will pioneer sustainable development in their environments. It is all about preserving mother earth, teaching young girls how to take care of the earth and teaching them how to preach to people; taking their advocacy campaigns to their homes and schools,” she said.

Nollywood actor and producer, Fred Amata; ace comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka; the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria 2018, Miss Imo Anita Ukah; Mrs. Amaka Onyemelukwe, Zeb Ejiro, and Keppy Ekpenyong were some of the notable personalities that graced the event.
