I might not be a man, but I know my dad has been fighting baldness for a while, and he recently started experiencing new growth after trying out different methods to stop it. It got me thinking, though I know that women are more particular about their hair, men need to take care of their hair too. Thus after much research I found a few hair care tips for black men hair that could combat baldness and other hair care issues.
Leave your edges alone– Tell your barber to make sure your hair is even all around—this includes your edges. Remind him not to knock your hairline back further to give you a cleaner look. It doesn’t make sense to have a straight line while thinning.
Dyeing isn’t always the best option– Please, avoid using chemicals like hair colouring or perming because it can cause a damaging effect on hair.
Avoid brushes– Avoid using a brush on wet hair which might damage it; instead use a wide-toothed comb to gently work out any tangle.
Find the right washing and conditioning products. Don’t be afraid to shampoo and condition your hair routinely. Conditioning is not only for women. Find a brand that works and stick with it. Look for a brand that leaves your scalp feeling rejuvenating as this is where your hair comes from.
Hot water is a no no– Use the right temperature of water. Only rinse your hair with lukewarm water. Hot water easily dries your scalp out even more.
Stay away from harsh chemicals– Applying harsh chemicals to your hair attempting to enhance your thickness is a recipe for destruction. Find a light grease that contains oils and rejuvenates your scalp.
Lubricate your hair- Applying a moisturizer to your hair can greatly reduce the amount of breakage while stimulating growth. Even if you’re not going for the deep waves, still apply some type of grease and oil sheen to your hair.
Add more protein to your diet- Eat foods that are high in protein such as meat, fish, eggs, nuts and beans. Protein is probably one of the healthiest items to include in your eating habits because it strengthens and stimulates hair growth.
Massage your scalp. Before going to bed take a few minutes and massage your scalp. This will help stimulate the blood flow and help relieve stress-stunting growth.
