President Muhammadu Buhari finally made good his promise to visit Benue State today.
The President was received by the state governor Samuel Ortom and members of the state executive council.
President Buhari assured the state government that efforts will be intensified to permanently put a stop to the menace of Fulani herdsmen nefarious activities in Benue and general insecurity in other parts of the country.
he also expressed surprise that the Inspector-General of Police refuse to obey his directive to relocate to Benue state.
” I cannot overlook the killings in Benue or any other part of Nigeria. I cannot do that. I am genuinely worried about the attacks in Benue and we are doing everything to end them.
” The insecurity in some states is a major concern to me, and concerted efforts are being made to restore normalcy to every part of the country. I am surprised at the revelation that the Inspector-General Police did not spend 24-hours in Benue despite my directive. I am getting to know this in this meeting. I am quite surprised…it is unacceptable…”
Meanwhile, stakeholders in the state have called on the President to take decisive actions to end killings by herdsmen in the state.
The presidential visit is coming about 10 weeks after the new year day massacre of farmers in Logo and Guma local government areas of the state and a week after the Omusu killings in Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state.
