The arrest of Nigerian singer, Naira Marley, by operatives of The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has been confirmed by the spokesperson of the commission, Mr Tony Orilade.

On Friday morning, Premium Times reported the arrest of the musician by the EFCC in Lagos following recent controversies surrounding him.

And now the commission has confirmed his arrest along with others in relation to alleged advance fee scam and related cybercrimes.

“Yes, he is with us. He’s not the only person; he had some other persons also arrested alongside (him)," Mr Tony Orilade told Punch correspondents in an interview.

“They were arrested in relation to advance fee fraud — Internet-related cases and all of that. Give me a little time and I will get you the details.”

Naira Marley, who is best known for his single ‘Issa Goal,’ has been a subject of controversy recently for validating Internet fraud (yahoo yahoo) in several posts and videos on Instagram.

He was heavily criticized this week by rapper, Ruggedman, who called him a fraudster that was becoming a bad influence on young people, in an interview with HipTV.

The 'Am I a Yahoo Boy' crooner responded in a fiery manner on his Instagram live video, mocking the Hip Hop legend's declining career.

Over 150 suspects have been reportedly arrested across the country since the EFCC launched their Operation Cyber Storm last year as they sought to curb the activities of Internet fraudsters.
