Ekene Franklin, a 15-year-old boy from Abia State, has been announced by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, as the highest scoring candidate for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, UTME.

In an announcement made by the registrar of JAMB earlier today in Abuja, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, Franklin was announced as the best-performing candidate after scoring 347 marks.

Oloyede revealed also that 1,792,719 students sat for the exam, with 34,120 candidates having their results withheld for examination malpractice.

Igban Emmanuel Chidibube, another 16-year-old candidate from Abia State, scored 346 marks to come second, while Oluwo Isaac Olamilekan Oloyode, 17, from Osun State came third with a total test score of 345.

Over 2,906 students were said to have scored above 300 marks, a drop from 4,683 that was recorded in 2018.

57, 579 of the candidates that sat for the exam scored between 250 and 299, another decrease from 64,120 in that score region in 2018.

Oloyede added that 366,757 candidates from this year's exam scored between 200 and 249, an improvement from what was obtained in the past year.

According to reports, however, Franklin might not be admitted into his university of choice, the University of Lagos, due to his age.
