A herdsman in Ilasa Ekiti in Ekiti State reportedly decimated the head of his fiancée with a machete for refusing to visit him.
The deceased was attacked on Tuesday beside a stream where she had gone to fetch water with her younger sister who was a witness to the brutal murder. The suspect was said to have cut her head when she bent down to collect some water from the stream.
The Alasa of Ilasa, Oba Ajayi Omolagba, spoke to media persons revealing that the deceased was betrothed to the suspected assailant as a future wife while she was still a teenager in consonance with their custom and tradition.
According to close sources, the trouble started last month when the suspect requested the deceased to come spend the Eld-el-Fitr celebrations with him, she refused because her family did not release her before, during and after the celebration.
This angered the suspect who assumed the contract had been breached by the family, hence he took laws into his own hands and committed a formidable act.
Another version of murder from a close friend of the deceased, said, “the lady, after growing up, observed that the supposed husband was a drunkard and drug addict, thereby avoiding him for necessary marriage arrangements.”
