Metro View Hotel is one of the most popular hotels in Ebonyi State. It was commissioned by the former governor of Ebonyi State in 2005 and is popular among students because it is located close to Presco Campus of Ebonyi State University [EBSU], Abakaliki. The hotel suddenly collapsed on Thursday morning, July 18. Fortunately, over 60 persons lodged in the hotel escaped unhurt.
Chief Austine Orji, spokesperson for the hotel management, narrated the event to journalists, informing them that the hotel management had earlier noticed cracks on the pillars across the building and they started temporary renovations. They also reduced the intake of guests and the accident occurred while the hotel guests had left for a seminar. Chief Orji reassured the newsmen that no lives were claimed.
Chief David Umahi, Governor of Ebonyi State, has ordered the immediate closure of the affected hotel pending further notice through his Special Assistant, Mr. Okoro.
The special assistant further stated that the hotel would be brought under serious investigations for allegedly endangering the lives of its guests.
