WAEC Officially Releases 2019 WASSCE Results

On Friday, July 26, the West African Examination Council [WAEC] released the 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination [WASSCE] results. Analytic reports suggest that 64% of the examination candidates passed in major subjects like English Language and Mathematics.

Mr. Oku Adenipekun, the Head of National Office [HNO], said:

"One million and twenty thousand five hundred and nineteen (1,020,519) candidates representing 64.18% obtained credits and above in a minimum of five (5) subjects including English Language and Mathematics.

“The results of one hundred and eighty thousand two hundred and five (180,205) candidates, representing 11.33% of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.”

He confirmed that the 180,205 candidates that had their results withheld are currently under investigation, adding that the outcome of the investigation would be presented to the committee of the WAEC board.

He further explained how the genders fared in the just-released WASSCE results. According to him, 51.70% compromising of eight hundred and twenty-two thousand, ninety-eight [822,098] candidates were male, meanwhile the females commanded a 48.30% consisting of seven hundred and sixty-eight thousand, seventy-five [768,075] candidates, making it a total of one million, four hundred and sixty-eight thousand, seventy-one [1,468,071] results that were released.
