Xenophobia: Sanwo-Olu Visits Malls Looted By Nigerians

Happenings

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has condemned the reprisal attacks by Nigerians on South African businesses in the country, adding that the attacks were unnecessary.

He said this during a visit to Novare Plaza, Sangotedo, and Adeniran Ogunsanya Mall, Surulere, which were looted by protesters responding to the recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

“Unfortunately, they are indigenous companies that have been destroyed,” the governor, who was accompanied by security operatives, commissioners and journalists, stated.

He continued, “From the evidence, it is obvious that the people actually broke in, jumping walls; it is unimaginable. It is pure robbery. Over 5,000 people are out of jobs presently at Adeniran Ogunsanya Mall, while over 3,000 are out of jobs at Novare Plaza Sangotedo.”

The governor also affirmed that the arrested culprits will be prosecuted and dealt with to serve as a deterrent to others.
