An Evbuoriaria Chief Magistrate court in Benin, the Edo State capital, has ordered a 43-year-old Esther Ehikhioya to be remanded in prison for assaulting a two-year-old girl.

She was accused of defiling the girl by putting her finger in her vagina.

Ehikhioya, a nanny with the Catholic Intercessory Academy, Sapele Road, Benin, allegedly committed the offence on February 3, 2020.

The prosecutor, Mr Peter Ogbe, in the charge sheet number MEV/61c/c/202, said Ehikhioya after putting her finger into the little girl’s vagina, broke her hymen which was against the law. The count two also accused Ehikhioya of unlawfully having carnal knowledge of the same girl without her consent.

A medical report from the Police Cottage Hospital, Police Clinic, Benin, confirmed that the girl’s hymen was not intact after medical examinations at the hospital. The little girl, who was presented in the facility on February 4, was examined by Dr Efosa Osagie, the Medical Officer of Police Cottage Hospital.

Efosa said, “On examination, I found a young child of pre-school age hymen not intact, no abrasion, nil bruises and nil redness around the vaginal area or anus.”

Ehikhioya pleaded not guilty to the two counts, but Chief Magistrate Dorothy Adamaigbo ordered her to be remanded in prison till March 26 when the hearing would commence.
