Not sure you are in a one-sided relationship? Find the signs here!
One-sided relationships are no fun! It feels like you are having a relationship with yourself rather than with your partner. But how can you tell that you are in a one-sided relationship? Check out five signs below.
1. You put in more effort than your partner
It’s simple! If you put in all the effort, do all the work, shoulder all the responsibilities - emotional, physical, mental, financial - you are in a one-sided relationship. A relationship is a two-way street. Your partner has to put in as much work as you do and you as much as they do. But when you are the only one making compromises and sacrifices to ensure that the relationship works, it’s time to pack up and leave.
2. Your partner always takes you for granted
So, your partner takes you for granted all the time. This is a huge red flag. You are definitely in a relationship all by yourself. Your physical, emotional, and mental needs are not met. Spending time together becomes burdensome, as your partner would rather spend all their time, money and energy on other things and people than on you.
3. They never reciprocate
An obvious sign that you are in a one-sided relationship is your partner’s unwillingness to reciprocate. Your partner expects you to do things for them or asks that you do things for them. They may even be things that you would not ordinarily do or things you have to go out of your way to do. Yet, your partner never appreciates your effort and never returns the favour, even if you ask for their help. They want all the help they can get from you but they are not ready to give any in return.
4. You make excuses for your partner
Are you constantly making excuses for your partner? Do you try hard to convince yourself that your partner is controlling, selfish or uncaring because of something you did? Do you blame their negative attitude and neglect on anything and everything but them? Do you keep saying things like “I know he works a lot!” “He’s probably just tired” “He would have if he could” when he does something wrong? Then chances are, you are in a one-sided relationship.
5. You are the only one passionate about the relationship
A loving, healthy relationship should be about two people. But if you seem to be the only one who is passionate about the relationship, doing all you can to make to make it work, you are probably in a one-sided relationship and you should just take a walk.
