Dry, cracked and chapped lips can be painfully unattractive. Chapped lips are as a result of exposure to sun or cold or licking your lips too often. Here are a few tips to help keep your lips soft and kissable.
Avoid licking your lips – When you lick your lips, your saliva provides moisture but dries out quickly, leaving it drier than before. This is caused by digestive enzymes present that dry out tissue.
Always wear a creamy lipstick to protect your lips from the sun and retain moisture. Try a lipstick that contains sunscreen like RIMMEL’S MOISTURE RENEW LIPSTICK or D & G’s Classic Cream Lipstick.
Drink Water– Drink about eight 250ml glasses of water a day or more. This helps to keep dryness from getting worse.
Use a lip balm that contains Sun Protection Formula (SPF), at least SPF-15 before going out.
Avoid lip balms that contain phenol or camphor as they contain antiseptics that cause dryness.
Petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, is very effective for healing chapped lips.
Lack of B vitamins contributes to dry chapped lips. Eat foods that contain B vitamins, such as meat, fish, whole grains, nuts and leafy greens.
Cocoa Butter serves as a natural balm that soothes and heals chapped, dry lips. Apply on your lips four or five times daily to keep your lips moist.
