Democracy Day: Sights and happenings

It was a national public holiday but it was business as usual in the city of Lagos. From Festac Town and it’s environs in Amuwo Odofin on the mainland all the way to Ikoyi on the Island, things were busy as you would expect on a regular  day. People went about their daily businesses irrespective of the celebration of emancipation from the firm grasp of the military.

A tour around my neighbourhood recorded a low turn of revelers that are always seen in popular fun places. Festival mall though was more crowded than expected. It seemed like Children’s Day extended to Monday. The popular Federal Housing Authority (FHA) play ground saw a number of APC members conducting their primaries despite the scorching heat.

The only indication of the nation having a public holiday was in the low traffic situation as traffic was less hectic as usual.
