In a gesture that can only be described as ‘enough is enough’, local government workers in Delta state, go on a march, bearing placards, as a way of appraising not just the State Government of their plight, but the general public and by extension the Federal Government of the deplorable state they find themselves in, as a result of unpaid salaries. Governor of Delta state Ifeanyi Okowa has been derelict in paying local government workers not just their salaries, but several months in salary arrears.
In protest at their distressing circumstances, they took to the streets of warri, in a placard bearing march, effectively blockading several parts of the metropolis. According to reports the protest was organized by the National Union of Local Government Workers (NULGE). Most of the placards read : “Pay Salaries or resign”; “Okowa stop oppressing local government workers”; “Okowa where is my salary”.
