Happenings Media captured the aftermath of yesterday morning’s heavy downpour of rain in the highbrow area of Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State. Quite a number of roads were flooded, including those off Admiralty Way and around the popular Ebeano Supermarket.
“Most of the drainages are blocked that’s why there’s so much water,” Michael, who ekes a living from motorcycle riding, shared his views on the reason for the flood.
“The government should do the gutter very well and the canal,” Helen, 42, added. The mother of three, who sells food items in a makeshift stall by the road, was also quick to point out that the flood slows down business, especially in the mornings.
“The rain affects the customers who come to buy goods. As the car dey pass now, dem go dey splash you water. Early this morning, there was nowhere to sit and sell to customers,” she lamented.
Michael, a one time dispatch rider for Jumai, agreed with her, saying, “The water disturbs my business. People still come and patronise me but movement on the road is slow. We can’t go so fast so that we don’t splash water on the customer’s body.”
