Nigerians have been urged to embrace peace and unity as Christians worldwide celebrate Christmas, which signifies the birth of Jesus Christ.

A lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Bisi Yusuff said in his message to Christians at Christmas that Nigerians have cause to celebrate with other nations of the world.

Yusuff said that the birth of Jesus Christ is synonymous with peace and unity.

The lawmaker, who is representing Alimosho Constituency 1 in the assembly, emphasized that Nigerians should reflect on the state of the nation at this period and contribute to peace and unity in the nation rather than making divisive statements.

He stated further that Nigeria has potentials for greatness, adding that the best is yet to come for the country.

According to him; “I want to congratulate Christians all over the world as they celebrate another Christmas that signifies the birth of Jesus Christ.

“This period calls for a sober reflection about what has been happening in our country. Now, that things are becoming normal again, we must all do all we can to ensure more stability for the country. We cannot afford to be divided or separated.

“We should allow this season to bring back the memories of how we started as a nation and think of what to do for us to move to the next level.

“Nigeria is noted for its leadership position in Africa and beyond, we must not relent in our efforts of doing our best to promote those things that unite us rather than fanning the embers of disunity.”

Yusuff stressed in the statement that the purpose of the birth of Jesus Christ should not be lost on the world, while advising that as we celebrate, we must stand for what Jesus came for as a lover of peace and unity.

The politician advised Christians and indeed Nigerians not to look at the challenges facing the country at the moment, but to look at the potentials of the country.

“Our greatness lies in our unity. We must tell the outside world that we are one. Let us harness our resources so that we can achieve our aims. It is not unusual for a country to pass through some challenges.

“We should all know that we have left Egypt and that we will soon arrive at Jerusalem. Our breakthrough is at the corner, so we should sheath our swords and cooperate with both the Federal and states governments so that we can move the country forward together,” the statement read in part.

While praying for celebration of more Christmas, Yusuff urged the people to appreciate what God has done for the country as he prayed that there will be more progress for the nation and for all the families in the nation.

He added that whatever trials the nation is experiencing presently is a passing phase and that the present governments of President Muhammadu Buhari at the federal level and Akinwunmi Ambode at the state level mean well for the country and the state respectively.
