George Weah Becomes the 25th President of Liberia

Talk about greatness! former Liberian footballer and Ballon d’or winner, George Weah has been voted the president of Liberia.

The former football striker turned politician,  is the 25th President of Liberia. He won the runoff elections to clinch the Number one position in Liberia, after winning 12 of the 15 counties in the West African country.

Weah, succeeds 79-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf who was the first African woman to be elected head of state.

He has taken to Twitter to thank all his supporters, in his own words: “It is with deep emotion that I want to thank you, the Liberian people, for honouring me with your vote today. It is a great hope,” he said .

President Jacob Zumba of South Africa has congratulated him on his victory.
