The inaugural edition of the UEFA Nations League kicked off today at various match venues across Europe. With 18 teams from six different groups in the four leagues in action.
Wales, Bulgaria, Norway, Georgia, Armenia and Macedonia recorded their first victory.
League A, Group 1
World champions, France played out a goalless draw against Germany at the Allianz Arena.
League B, Group 1
Ukraine came from behind to win 2-1 against Czech Republic Courtesy of a Zinchenko goal in the 90th minute.
League B, Group 4,
Tom Lawrence, Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Connor Roberts were all on target as Ryan Giggs’ Wales team ran out comfortable winners against Ireland at the Cardiff City stadium.
League C, Group 3
A Stefan Johansen brace for Norway gave them a 2 – 0 home win against Cyprus. While Slovenia suffered a 2 – 1 defeat at home to Bulgaria.
League D, Group 1
Latvia and Andorra played out a scoreless draw but in the other game of the group Georgia defeated Kazakhstan 2 – 0 away from home.
League D, Group 4
Henrikh Mkhitaryan missed from the spot but that didn’t stop Armenia from getting a 2 – 1 victory over Liechtenstein. While Macedonia moved top of the log with a 2 – 0 win over Gibraltar.
Other Matchday one fixtures of the UEFA Nations League will be played on Friday and Saturday.
