Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi would play no part in Nigeria’s AFCON qualifier against the pirates of Seychelles because of injury.
John Ogu has said Mikel’s absence from the Super Eagles team to face Seychelles in their crucial qualifier is a ‘huge blow’ for Nigeria.
Although, the Eagles are facing a relatively unknown side, the Isreal based midfielder said the team is motivated.
“It’s a huge blow if the captain [Mikel] of the team isn’t available for such a crucial match. But we have players capable of filling the void,” Ogu told reporters.
“We lost our first game so it’s imperative to win on Saturday to brighten our chances.
“We are looking forward to the match as our opponents are relatively unknown. The fear of the unknown is what will motivate us to victory.”
Mikel wasn’t included in coach Rohr’s initial 24-man squad because of injury he picked up playing for his club side.
