Argentina legend Diego Maradona has admonished Barcelona captain and fellow Argentine great Lionel Messi to quit international football.

Speaking to Clarin newspaper, the 1994 world cup winner said his advice to his country’s all time scorer is for him “Not to come (to the national team) again.”

When asked whether he meant to retire from the national team, Maradona said,

“Yes!” Was his sharp response when asked if he wanted Messi to retire.

“Because if the under-15 side loses, it’s Messi’s fault. He is always at fault. I would tell him, “Don’t come (to the national team) anymore.”

Messi has failed to win any major honours for Argentina have played at four World cups and Copa America respectively.

“I would have liked for him to have sent everyone to hell,” Maradona added.

“Because it’s not his fault not to be a world Champio. Today the national team doesn’t awaken absolutely anything.

“Not even to the people. We have lost that. Passion. We are throwing all of the prestige that we won in the toilet.”
