Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has given nod to Peter Obi as the vice-presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
Ekweremadu later made a u-turn to support Peter Obi after several meetings held with the leaders in the region.
He is presently rallying the Southeast leaders and PDP members to calm down and back the former governor.
Both Ekweremadu and Peter Obi were favourites considered by Atiku Abubakar as running mates in the 2019 presidential election, with Peter Obi eventually getting the nod.
The aggrieved leaders preferred Ekweremadu to Peter Obi as running mate because of his broad-based experience.
Ekweremadu was a former council chairman, former Secretary to Enugu State Government and two-term deputy senate president.
As at the time of filing this report, River State governor, Nyesom Wike and Ekweremadu have shown interest.
While few other major Southeast leaders are expected to support Peter Obi for the plum position.
