Ighalo Scores Brace As Nigeria Defeat Libya 3-2 In Sfax

Two goals by Odion Ighalo and one from Ahmed Musa gave Nigeria a 3-2 victory against Libya win in Tunisia.

The victory lifts Nigeria to top of their 2019 AFCON Qualifications group after South Africa drew against Seychelles.

Gernot Rohr made one change to the team that defeated Libya in Uyo, with Ola Aina replacing the injured Shehu Abdullahi.

Nigeria took a 2-1 lead into the break in what was largely an impressive outing first half for Gernot Rohr’s boys. But the Libyans made sure it wasn’t another easy ride in the second half for the visitors in their abducted homes.

The Mediterranean knights came equalized fifteen minutes from time before they were pegged back again by the Eagles.

Ighalo started the scoring after 14 minutes when Musa found him at the far post after a one-two with Iwobi.

Three minutes later, Ighalo returned the favour, providing the pass for Musa to slot home after some cheeky footwork.

Mohammed Zubya pulled one back with ten minutes left in the first half to give the Libyans some much needed spark.

Both teams had chances to score more goals but non took it before the break.

In the second half, Libya started the better of both teams. They put pressure on the Nigerian defense and caused Uzoho, in the Nigerian goal some problems.

They were rewarded for their fight thirty minutes in to the second half when Ahmad Benali scored from a rebound after Uzoho failed to gather.

The Libyans motivated went in search of the winner but it was at the other end the winner would come.

With nine minutes left, Odion Ighalo rolled back his Watford years. The striker received the ball at the edge of the box, dummied two defenders before sloting home the winner.

The win opens a five points gap between Nigeria and Libya and one point ahead of next opponent South-Africa.
