Eight time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt has rejected a professional football contract offer by Valletta FC of Malta.

Bolt who’s been on trial with Australian side scored twice in recent pre-season friendly.

Speaking to ESPN, Ricky Simms who is Bolt’s agent said the 32-year-old isn’t looking to take up the Malta challenge.

“Usain does not wish to pursue this Malta opportunity.

“There is a lot of interest in Usain playing football.

“We regularly receive similar approaches.”

Ghasston Slimen, the chief executive of Valletta has wished Bolt well and suggested the offer will still be left open.

“We wish Usain Bolt all the best with his football career. The Valletta FC offer is always on the table.”

Mariners coach Mike Mulvey doesn’t want to disturb himself with negotiations as he focus on the game agsinst Brisbane this weekend.

“I’m really not interested in it [contract speculation] to tell you the truth,” he said.

“He’s been great among the guys and I was happy for him last week with the two goals he scored, but we move on.”
