Senator Florence Ita Giwa Defects To PDP



Matriarch of high society, Florence Ita Giwa has returned to her former party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Florence Ita Giwa’s latest decision is barely a year after moving to the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC).

Ita Giwa, in a statement released to the media noted that in her decades in politics, she has not seen the kind of confusion met in APC in spite of kind of forthright president the party produced in 2015.

In April 1999, Ita Giwa  was elected into the Senate. As the Senator representing Cross River South Federal constituency on the platforms of All Peoples Party (APP). And she was in the senate until May 2003.

At the senate, Ita Giwa became a member of the committees on Environment, Foreign Affairs, Rules and Procedures, Women, Niger Delta and Drugs and Narcotics.

When she left the senate in 2003, Ita Giwa joined PDP and was a special adviser to two Nigerian Presidents on National Assembly Matters.

A consummate politician and legislator, she previously served both in the Senate and House of Representatives.

Ita Giwa was a member of the Constituional Conference, and a member Steering Committee of Commonwealth Women Parliamentarian.

Ita Giwa later married Dele Giwa, the founder and editor of Newswatch magazine.

However,Dele Giwa was assasinated in Oct. 19 1986, by a mail bomb.Although the marriage only lasted for ten months.

She has two children Koko Giwa and Etim Isong.
