Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that the Premier League calendar might have influenced United’s momentum negatively this season.

United have had a stop start season so far and are 8th in the Premier League table, five points off a top four place.

The Red Devils travel to Bournemouth this weekend before making a short trip across town for the Manchester derby.

That would be the second time the Red Devils would have such run of fixture this season.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday ahead of their game against Bournemouth he told reporters:

“I think we will be in a better position.

“I always say that by the end of the season you play 19 matches at home and 19 matches away and it doesn’t matter when, but the reality is the way the fixtures are coming, sometimes they have an influence in the moment.

”We had a double of away fixtures, Burnley and Watford, and now we have a double of away fixtures, Bournemouth and Manchester City.

“We will have Juventus away before Manchester City, we will have Valencia away before Liverpool. In this part of the season we play away against possibly the three biggest candidates for the title – Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City – so the calendar was not nice to us.

”But I think by the end of December, which is the end of the first half of the Premier League. I think we are not going to be in the position we are in now. We are going to be in a better position.“
