Titi Abubakar, the first wife of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in a recent interview has revealed how she fell in love with her husband.
Titi made the remarks when a group of women paid a visit to her Maitama, Abuja residence.
Titi while addressing the woman said she wondered why detractors always peddled false accusations of corruption against her husband.
“It demoralized me when I read wrong information about my husband”.
“And I do ask myself if it is Atiku I married about 47 years ago or a different person”.
“I married Atiku not because of money but for his honesty, sincerity and integrity”.
Mrs Abubakar, in her further submission, said she met her husband during his days as Customs officer at Idi-Iroko Border.
“I had an issue with a customs officer on my way back from my aunt who resided at the Benin Republic over a gift of a pair of brocade material”.
“It was Atiku who intervened then and paid for the duty and gave me the receipt”.
“As the zonal head then, he could have directed that I should be allowed to go and not pay.
“But he paid and this singular act impressed me and I fell deeply in love with him, she said.
The national coordinator of women for Atiku after the revealing chat thanked Titi Atiku for the reception.
She also pledged that they would continue to mobilise women across the country to seek support for Atiku.
Titi Abubakar, in the last few weeks, has been receiving different women groups who support her husband.
Titi in the coming weeks will welcome more of these groups before setting out to drum support for her husband across the country.
