Super Eagles gaffer Gernot Rohr believes ‘lack of self-confidence’ is the major problem of facing Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho.
Kelechi has had a poor run with the Eagles dating back to the World Cup in Russia.
The forward missed a begging opportunity to give Nigeria the lead against South Africa in their AFCON Qualifier in Johannesburg.
Iheanacho has also had it tough at club level, failing to score in his last eight games in all competitions.
But his national team manager has backed his striker to get back to his best form.
“We have all seen how Iheanacho has been playing for the national team. He is a good player and his fighting spirit is exceptional.
“But of late, his form has dropped. So also has his self-confidence, which is very low. And when you lack self-confidence you cannot score goals.
“He missed what would have been our first goal in South Africa. But I believe it is a temporary set-back.
“Iheanacho has a chance to regain his confidence with his club and play a big role for us in Cameroon.”
