Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has thanked former manager, Jose Mourinho for helping him “improve as a person”.

The Portuguese was sacked on Tuesday by the Red Devils following a disastrous start to their season.

Mourinho won two major trophies in his first season at Old Trafford while also finishing second last season. But the 55-year-old had quite a difficult third season, falling out with some of his key players.

Pogba was one of those who led the charge against Mourinho, with both men involved in several altercations.

But the Frenchman has put that aside and thanked him for aiding his development.

“We won trophies with Jose and I want to thank him for that,” he said after United’s win against Cardiff.

“He makes me improve, as a person as well, and that’s it. That’s the past, I want to thank him for that. I’m sure that is the same for all the players and now we are looking forward to the next game.”

Pogba was stripped of the vice captaincy days before he was filmed having an argument with his former boss. But the star midfielder is focused on helping United “go back to the top of the league”.

“The performance of the team was great and we are happy that the first game of the manager starts like this. It’s important now to carry on like that,” he added.

“We cannot play like this and win with five goals and then the next game lose.”
