Manchester City defeated Burton Albion 9-0 in the first leg of their Carabao cup semi-final clash at the Etihad.

Goals by De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus(4), Zinchenko, Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, and Riyad Mahrez gave Pep’s side a comfortable win.

The Citizens made light work of their visitors as they made next week’s return fixture a mere formality.

Kevin De Bruyne started the rout five minutes into the game when he headed in David Silva’s well timed cross.

Jesus got his first of the night following in on Sane’s deflected shot to head home on the half hour mark. The Brazilian got his brace four minutes later, finishing iff cooling after David Silva’s fine pass.

Zinchenko whould make it four before the break. His looped cross towards Jesus found its way beyond Collins in the Burton goal to compound Albion’s woes.

After the break, Pep Guardiola’s men continued from where they stopped in the first half. They dominated possession and created chances.

On 57 minutes, Mahrez played a neat one-two with Silva before clipping the ball for Gabriel Jesus to guide home.

Phil Foden then got his second goal in as many games for City after a scramble in the box. Gabriel Jesus had taken Gundogan’s pass in his stride but couldn’t finish when facing the goalkeeper. His shot and follow-up was saved but the young midfielder was on hand to finish off.

Jesus got his fourth minutes later when Leroy Sane chested down for him to steer home from five-yards.

It was 8-0 five minutes later after Mahrez again, squared for defender Kyle Walker to apply the finish.

The Algerian turned from provider to scoring in a matter of minutes, wrapping the 9-0 win for the home side.

City next face Wolves when they resume Premier League action on Monday night.
