Lagos State Police Command Take the War on Drugs to New Level Destroy N400m Worth of Hard Drugs

Summary

On Wednesday, 9th January 2019 the Nigerian police took its war on drugs to new heights, as the Lagos State Police Command destroyed hard drugs with a street value of N400m.

The destruction of these drugs was closely supervised as it was set ablaze at Eru Elepe dumpsite, Ikorodu, Lagos state.

Controlled substances that were destroyed during the exercise are, Cocaine, Marijuana, Tramadol, Heroine, Codeinel etc. Even syringes used to administer some of these drugs were also confiscated.

Speaking with the press, the Commissioner of police, Edgal Imohimi said that these drugs were discovered during raids of criminal hideouts and intelligence from reliable sources.

The commissioner of police went on to say that the destruction of these banned substances were in line with his drive to fight crime in the state. According to him, there was a very close nexus between drugs and crime.

The two strongest elements in the commission of a crime is the availability of arms and drugs. That is why I have taken very seriously the fight against drug use and drug sales in the state.

The commissioner made it clear that the war on drugs in Lagos was a joint effort of the police, several security agencies and the Lagos state government.

Edgal Imohimi made it clear that the Lagos state police command will not relent in its fight against drugs. And the protection of lives and properties of Lagosians.

Furthermore, the Lagos State Commissioner of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Relations, Seye Oladejo commended the efforts of the police to fight drug use among the youths in the state.
