Real or Publicity Stunt?
Earlier this week, Nigerian celebrities, Adekunle Gold and Simi shut down the Nigerian entertainment industry and social media with news of their secret wedding.
According to reports at the time, the location of the wedding was a best kept secret and only 300 guests were invited. A reliable source who was a guest, revealed to Happenings that their phones were confiscated upon entry into the venue.
While there were photos of invited guests resplendent in their ‘Agbadas’, ‘Aso Oke’ and dresses, there were no photos of the bride and groom. Except a flimsy video of Adekunle Gold and Simi dancing in what looked like a wedding reception.
Also circulating social media is a viral photo shopped picture of the celebrity duo, with Simi wearing a wedding dress and Adekunle Gold in a suit. Leaving the impression that the duo may have had their white wedding as well.
However, with all of these questionable factors in place, Nigerians are beginning to doubt the authenticity of Adekunle Gold and Simi’s wedding. Tongues are wagging that the wedding may have been a publicity stunt and the video of the couple dancing may have been a music video.
Whatever the truth is; celebrity stunt or reality, the duo are playing with fire. They are emotionally manipulating their fans to create buzz and it could end well or badly for them. If this publicity stunt is well played, it will drastically increase their profiles or send their music careers into oblivion.
Happenings recalls that an upcoming celebrity who played the same game and ended his music career before it even began is Skiibi. At the time, Skiibii was signed under Nigerian billionaire, e money’s 5 Star Music.
As an upcoming act, he tried to create buzz with news of his death. Instead the publicity stunt had the opposite effect. The little progress he made at the time was lost and his fans distrusted him so intensely. It is difficult to like or follow somebody you distrust. At the moment nobody listens or associates with Skiibii
Thus Simi and Adekunle Gold must know they are playing with fire and their music careers may either explode or be destroyed.
Do you think their marriage is real or a celebrity stunt?
