Kayode Egbetokun is the new Lagos State Commissioner of Police.

The former Chief Security Officer to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his tenure as Lagos governor was appointed on Sunday, 13 Jan. 2019.

This appointment may be a calculated move from the Jagaban himself, to ensure that insecurity does not threaten the highly anticipated Lagos Guber Election.

Egbetokun replaced the ex-Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who has been redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja to head the Explosive Ordinance Unit.

A reliable source disclosed that Imohimi was replaced by Egbetokun because he was unable to provide adequate security for the All Progressive Congress (APC) rally last week which turned violent.

Recall that the rally left 3 persons dead and several people injured. NURTW boss, MC Oluomo was caught in the cross hairs. He was stabbed and had to be rushed out of the venue to save his life.

The Guber rally was disrupted by the factional National Union of Road Transport Workers leader, Mustapha Adekunle popularly known as Seigo , who has currently been declared missing by the police.

Further checks confirmed that the former CP, Imohimi Edgal was removed before the highly anticipated Lagos Guber election as a result of his closeness to Akinwunmi Ambode, the outgoing Lagos State governor.

Clearly, since the incumbent governor was denied his second term bid, there has been an undercurrent of distrust, between Governor Ambode and Lagos APC leaders.

Egbetokun has been a thoroughbred policeman who can improve Lagos State as far as policing is concerned.

Before ascending the new office, he was the deputy commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of operations at the Lagos Command.

He was also the Deputy Commandant, Nigeria Police College in Ikeja, Lagos.

Egbetokun was born on September 4, 1964, Erinja Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

He joined the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990, as a Cadet Superintendent of Police.
