Lagos Gubernatorial Debate

The candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jimi Agbaje on Saturday wowed many at the Lagos gubernatorial election debate as he spoke on his plans, if he won the Lagos governorship election.

The debate which was anchored by the British-Nigerian broadcaster, Victor Oladokun had in attendance: Owolabi Salis of Alliance For Democracy (AD); Babatunde Gbadamosi of ADP; Jimi Agbaje of PDP and Babajide Sanwo-Olu from the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC).

The two main party candidates, Agbaje and Babajide Sanwo-Olu battled each other on several issues challenging the state.

The debate started on a lighter mood with PDP and APC candidates reading out their citations and their missions for the state.

Thereafter it turned into an altercation before the moderator cautioned them to avoid attacking each other but state solutions to the impending problems plaguing the state.

On Apapa gridlock, Agbaje in his speech said that strict measures must be adopted to end daily gridlock which has hindered business opportunities within Apapa Ports.

Agbaje promised to tackle the problem when he assumed office as the governor of the state.

“I will also put a stop to Apapa-Oshodi Expressway Gridlock within my 100 days in office”.

Speaking on the perennial gridlock, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said his administration would solve the gridlock problems within 60 days of his administration.

He noted he has studied the situation and knows the best option to end the killer traffic congestion.

According to Sanwo-Olu, he said he would embark on a pooling system and Ogun State would be useful to drive the project.

“We will ask trailers to park outside the state, they would only be allowed to come into the state on request” Sanwo-Olu stated.

Mr Gbadamosi of ADP surprised many and beat Jimi Agbaje and Babajide Sanwo-Olu with his brilliant plans for the state.

The real estate merchant in his submission posited that he would boost the infrastructural shortfall of the state by building rail lines to all exit points of Lagos.

The new innovation according to him would open up water transportation and movement of containers by barges rather than via road. This according to him will drastically reduce the notorious Lagos gridlock.

Gbadamosi also berated Ambode’s government for its inability to complete the light rail project in 10 years and wondered why the state was financing these projects when private sectors were available to bankroll it.

He also added that the one billion dollar cost of the project was too expensive for the project.
