President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, met ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo during the National Council of State meeting.

The meeting was an avenue for deliberations on national issues, including the forthcoming general elections and possible endorsement of the appointment of the acting Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed.

The meeting also had in attendance some past Heads of State, the Senate President, Olubukola Saraki, and 36 state governors.

Former military President, Ibrahim Babaginda and Gen Yakubu, were reportedly absent from the meeting which officially kicked off on Tuesday morning.

The two former military brass exchanged pleasantries and pretended as if all was well between them.

The meeting is coming on the heels of Obasanjo’s open letter penned on Sunday, alleging plans by Buhari and the All Progessives Congress to rig 2019 general elections.

It is also a known fact that Obasanjo has withdrawn his support for Buhari in the early days of his administration, following unrest and economic instability among other problems facing the country.

It will be recalled that, in 2015, Obasanjo supported Buhari against his anointed son, Ex President Goodluck Jonathan, after penning an open letter to Jonathan warning him not to run for the second term.

The former Baylesa State Governor, who did not heed the advice of his godfather, went ahead with the election and lost to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The cat and mouse relationship between Obasanjo and Buhari started after Obasanjo openly endorsed his former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the next president.

This is an indication that he has lost confidence in Buhari’s administration.
