Oby Ezekwesili Bows Out Of Presidential Race

Funsho Akinwale

Obiageli Ezekwesili, the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria’s presidential candidate, has withdrawn from the 2019 presidential race.

The former Education Minister, who announced her decision on Thursday, said she opted out of the race to constitute a coalition to defeat the major two opposition parties; Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress.

“My action is deliberate,”she said. “I took the decision after several consultations with leaders across the country and I deem it fit it’s better I help form a veritable coalition that will stop APC and PDP from winning the presidential election.”

Further checks confirm that Oby’s withdrawal from the race could be a result of the outcome of the presidential debate held last week Saturday.

“The turn of events, whereby President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Atiku Abubakar boycotting the debate might have prompted her action,” a source revealed.

Ezekwesili, a former aide to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, was yet to name the coalition as at the time of filing this report .

A further dig, however, indicated that the former minister might have formed alliance with the other two co-presidential candidates, Kingsley Moghalu and Fela Durotoye, who were present at the last presidential debate to defeat the two major political parties.

Recall that the three presidential aspirants during the live debate lambasted President Muahmmed Buhari and Vice President Atiku for shunning the debate.

They all accused them of lacking foresight and the ability to answer questions.
