Donald Duke Returns As SDP Presidential Candidate
The National Working Committee of Social Democratic Party has called for an emergency meeting to review the return of former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke as SDP presidential candidate.
The Appeal Court on Thursday, 24th Jan. 2019 reinstated Donald Duke as the party‘s presidential candidate against the claim of Prof. Jerry Gana as the authentic candidate of the party.
Recall that Donald Duke had won at the presidential primaries held on October 7, 2018 but Gana after the loss headed to court to fight back as the rightful candidate.
On December 14, 2018, respite came for the celebrated professor when a judgment delivered by Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf favored Jerry Gana as SDP presidential candidate.
Happenings gathered that weeks back when INEC published the full list of presidential and vice presidential candidates of parties, SDP column was said to be blank , only indicating court order and stating ‘party yet to be submit name of candidate’
From all indications it seems the party leaders prefer Donald Duke as the party presidential candidate than Prof Jerry Gana.
The party we reliably gathered deliberately refused to submit Gana’s name to INEC as directed by the Federal High Court but delayed the submission to know the outcome of the Appeal Court which eventually favored Donald Duke.
