Hon. Yakubu Dogara, the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, has dumped the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), for the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The respected Bauchi State born politician made the announcement of his defection on Tuesday during a plenary session.

Prominent politicians from Zamfara and Plateau States, Ahmed Yerima and Edward Pwajok, also defected to PDP alongside the speaker.

The speaker’s defection has finally laid to rest speculations of his visit to PDP secretariat in September last year to submit his House of Reps election form while still in the ruling party.

Dogara eventually moved to his former party barely a week after hundreds of followers and supporters from his Bauchi hometown urged him to move to PDP.

His kinsmen, after persuading him to leave the ruling party, also presented him with a PDP nomination form and an expression of interest form.

The speaker, while addressing the jubilant crowd, said he has left APC for good. “I have decided to come back home,” Dogara added.

The speaker has now joined the likes of the Senate President, Olubukola Saraki, PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and other top guns in PDP to slug it out with President Muhammadu Buhari in the forthcoming general election.
