Former SGF, Babachir Lawal, In EFCC Custody
The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, on Tuesday, was detained in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission custody till Wednesday, February 13, 2019, for the continuation of his investigation.
A federal court in Abuja reportedly ordered EFCC to detain the embattled close ally of President Muhammadu Buhari for proper interrogation.
As part of the president’s stance against corruption, the federal government earlier in January filed 10 charges on fraud allegations against the former SGF.
Babachair, on Tuesday, pleaded not guilty to the case brought against him by EFCC before he was ordered to be detained in the antigraft custody till tomorrow.
Recall that Babachir was sacked for allegedly awarding a grass cutting contract under the presidential initiative in the North East, without following due process.
Until his final dismissal, he was first placed on suspension for over three months to allow investigation into the matter.
He was later fired after the investigation exposed his gross misconduct.
