Election Will Hold On Saturday - INEC Chair To Foreign Monitors

The Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Wednesday, maintained that the rescheduled presidential and national assembly elections would hold as planned.

The INEC boss confirmed the Saturday elections while chatting with members of the diplomatic community and international election monitoring team for the 2019 general elections.

The media briefing, which was jointly put together by INEC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is basically aimed at informing the international community on the rescheduled Saturday elections.

Professor Mahmood, while addressing the world, affirmed that nothing would stop the elections on February 23.

He said all that needed to be done has been in place, noting that the deployment of materials is completed across the country.

“We believe that as a prayerful nation the act of God has been assuaged and that things will go right, we have no reason to feel that anything will go wrong.

We have received all the materials, they have been checked, audited, people have been informed, party agents have gone there to check,” he stated.

The INEC chair, in his conclusion, said that logistics and some political party crises associated with delayed printing of ballot papers led to the last Saturday postponement.
