FG Declares Friday A Work Free Day

In readiness for Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Federal Government has declared Friday, February 22, 2019, a public holiday.

The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahaman Bello Dambazau, in his statement, on Wednesday excluded doctors, bankers and other professionals who render essential services across the country.

The public holiday, according to the minister, will afford many the opportunity to return to their poling units for the rescheduled election.

“Security agencies have been directed to ensure safety of lives and property, before, during and after the general election,” the minister said.

The work-free day, many believe, is an attempt by the Federal Government to appease the prospective electorates following last Saturday’s election postponement that crippled business activities and social engagements across the nation. .

Many had woken up last Saturday, with the mindset of voting, but to the chagrin of millions of Nigerians, INEC had shifted the election, claiming logistic problems.

As usual, Nigerians expressed their displeasure with some politicians apportioning blame to the INEC boss, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, over the unexpected postponement.

Recall that Lagos city became a ghost town, as all roads were empty because many were forced to stay indoors for hours before receiving the postponement news with total disappointment.

While some had to postpone their wedding and birthday ceremonies, others lost millions to the postponement.
