See disturbing photos of violence at the polls in some parts of Nigeria
Saturday, 23rd of Feb. 2019 was an important one for Nigerians, as in a show of solidarity they marched to the polls to perform their civic duties.
While some parts of Nigeria experienced a peaceful and hitch free elections, other parts were fraught with violence, tears and bloodshed.
Despite the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari that ballot box snatchers will be killed, thugs terrorised citizens in some parts of Nigeria. (In Lagos, Okota, Ajao Estate and Aguda, Surulere were affected; Abonema in Rivers state saw shocking bloodshed and deaths, so did Osun state).
These thugs chased away law-abiding Nigerians waiting to cast their votes and destroyed election material.
Also the viral lynching in Okota, Lagos of the alleged head of OPC, Demola shocked Nigerians; he and his cronies had destroyed election material and disenfranchised residents in Okota and in retaliation, jungle justice was meted out on him.
Why security was slack in these parts that experience violence is yet unclear, however there are unverified reports that it was a calculated political move, steeped in tribalism.
