See why the Presidential Election held in Feb. 23, 2019, instead of March 26

Happenings

It is almost two weeks since the Presidential election and the results by INEC has been quite controversial as the main opposition, PDP is challenging the results.

Furthermore there were instances of violence at the polls in parts of Lagos during the presidential election.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has made it quite clear that he is headed to court, as he alleges that the Presidential election and results was marred by malpractices.

Recall that Happenings reported in January, that the highly anticipated presidential elections by INEC will be postponed from Feb. 16 to March 26, 2019.

However in a surprising move, INEC fixed the Presidential election to Feb. 23, inconsistent with the March 26 election date as revealed by our source.

According to the source who prefers to stay anonymous, INEC did not move the election because of the fear of a backlash from Nigerians and the international Election monitoring community.

The source went on to say that a clear indication of INEC’s true intention to move the Presidential election to March was seen in its level of unpreparedness in Feb, 23.

While some parts of the polls in Nigeria were relatively peaceful, other parts were quite chaotic. As INEC officials arrived to some polling units rather late and even worse, some card readers were dysfunctional.

All eyes are on INEC for the Gubernatorial election and State Assembly election on Saturday, March 9, 2019.
