Ibinabo Fiberesima, former President of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has defected to the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
The actress turned politician, on Tuesday, announced her defection on her Facebook page, where she noted that she had just exercised her constitutional right to freedom of association.
“I am someone that has respected and enjoyed such rights especially making use of such association for the furtherance of my aforementioned goals and objectives,”
“I strongly believe that associations must foster accommodation and value for those within it.
“We must appreciate efforts and risks taken to sustain that association and when it seems that one has been relegated to the point of redundancy and lack of mutual respect in spite of herculean efforts there to.
It then sadly signals a time to say goodbye and accept the recognition offered by another platform,” she stated.
Her decision to dump PDP for APC, according to informed sources, is not unconnected to her failure to get PDP’s ticket to vy for the chairmanship seat in Rivers State last year.
A dependable source, privy to the whole scenario, confirmed that the former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, who is also from the same local council with Ibinabo, worked against the former beauty queen to secure the chairmanship of Okrika Local Government.
Recall that Ibinabo, during the tenure of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, enjoyed her PDP membership.
She had direct access to the Presidential Villa, without any protocol and was empowered financially to contract some Nollywood actors who campaigned for Jonathan’s 2015 presidential election.
Four years after Jonathan’s government, the mullato actress has dumped her benefactor to assist the re-elected President Muhammadu Buhari move the country to the next level.
